My hand built surfaces reveal the subtle pinch of fingers tracking a path of imaginative discovery.

My newest work is porcelain pottery fired to Cone 10 Oxidation. Soft slabs are stacked and gently pinched together to create forms and surfaces that invite food and conversation. My hand-built dishes reveal the subtle pinch of fingers tracking a path of imaginative discovery. Although color gives the pots great joy, a recent focus has been the development of a subtle white on white surface. Using techniques including stamps, water-etching, and carving, in tandem with a bright white underglaze and the pale creamy bare clay color, a rich and delicate surface speckled with bright blossoms of color emerges. This approach is similar to how I garden, planting varieties of densely textured foliage scattered lightly with arrays of colorful flowers.
